BUT! In hindsight, the truth is that there is so much more to a sock than what originally met your eyes!!!

Believe it or don't believe it, but the real fact of the matter is—socks, as we know them today, have many more uses than even our own imaginations have thought of so far.

Socks on top

Dating all the way back to the 15th century, many were dodging those cold winter bullets (*brrr) by knitting larger sock like structures and affixing them to their heads to stay warm in the winter months or even years depending on where one chooses to live. Author: wikipedia

Socks on a crispy boy!

Being from Wisconsin, one can certainly appreciate the refreshing chill that you get when you crack open a crispy boy on a hot summer (or late spring) (or early fall) day. But alas, with exterior temperatures reaching into the low hundreds or the excess warmth of your own body heat in your hand, one might unsuspectingly warm the beer before having a chance to finish them or "fire them down the hatch," if you will. But now we have these multi-use socks to help your beverage dodge those heat bullets and keep your crispy boys crisp. Unless of course you are going to be "shotgunning" your beer—in which case you may feel free to skip reading this section and move on to the next section.

Socks on paws?!?!

Why should humans be the only ones to enjoy?!? With the invention of our modern textile workers today, we now have the ability to provide our fur friends and relatives with the same luxuries we too get to have for ourselves in this day and age. NOTE: The image depicted here only shows as an example socks for the anterior paws, however, our own researchers are almost fairly positive that most pet sock packages come in sets of 4 so you have socks for your pet's posterior legs as well. Source: WALMART
Socks for the whole:

Imagine, if you will, that you were to continue your socks up up up until your whole entire body was covered?! Outlook promising at the least:

It should come as no surprise for those of you who have been following this blog and keeping up with other news in the industry that we're only on the tippy-toe (see what I did there) top of the iceburg when it comes to footwear sustainability. The latest projections are in and they are looking as good as gold if not better (depending on how gold is performing or underperforming and how much you have).

As you can clearly see in the chart below, there is an ongoing ever-present demand for inner-shoe fabric linings (socks) in local markets and markets worldwide. Market Revenues are projected to increase and an appreciation for sockwear is growing daily every day thanks to new advancements in distribution such as Sock Of The Month Club and others just like it but with different variations.

A side note about sizing:

Back in the day there used to be not nearly as many sizes as there are in this day and age. With changes in shoes that we've all seen coming, there has been a need to adjust the sock within along with these changes. This greatly contributes to the overall demand for various sock textile manufacturing facilities across the globe from the very small to the very tall. This chart is not 100% completely accurate as there is even socks that are just on the bottom of the sole of the foot and now some that are just for the front of the foot to protect the toes from sweating proficiently in half-shoe styles. Side note: there is still some debate in the community as to whether leggings that do not connect in the groinage area are considered socks as they connect in the middle there, but nonetheless, the demand is there when you include those too.

Part 2 of 3 in series

It's not surprising that socks are making national news worldwide in headlines in todays news. From all reaches of the earth socks are experiencing an exciting new revolution in both style, genre, color and prominence. In recent history socks have gone through a "dark ages" of sorts much similiar to that of Western Europe centuries ago.

The Sock "Dark Ages"

There have been few movers and shakers since the sock glory days of the striped tube socks of the 70's and leg warmer socks of the 80's. Don't get me wrong - I am not saying business socks or standard tapioca white socks are bad at all. They definately have their place in a professional setting. But if one was to make a fashion statement...
If one wants to be fashion one would look to Rob Kardashian for advice. In this article http://www.cosmopolitan.com /celebrity/news/ arthur-george-rob-kardashian-socks
written by trend setting group, Cosmo politan - you see that Rob is at it again - this time he is focusing on what is considered by many to be the foundation to a trending outfit : the sock. As you can see, Rob is reinvigorating the standard sock with flashy designs and vibrancy. No longer will the sock be in the "dark ages."

If you're not a gay, and you're worried that these socks are maybe too flashy? Or maybe to colorful like a rainbow? Worried what people will wonder? Then you don't need to worry. Cosmo writes that these socks are not just for the gays anymore and that the regular guys can wear them to without any worries.

Out with the old. Or Not?

So if you're tired of those and want a change. Call up these guys who will completeley give your sock drawer a makeover and SO LONG OLD BORING SOCKS! But as we mentioned before NEVER throw out old socks. There are plenty of recycle options available to you. Or - as the people who run in New York do, save your old socks for the Old Dirty Sock Race http://www.dirtysockrun.com/ !
Believe it or not believe it! Socks are not a new invention people just made!!! That's right! Socks have been here for quite some time now!! Although you and I have probably only been wearing socks since we were born long ago, people have been wearing socks (or something much like a sock) on their feet since before you and I were EVEN BORN!!! That's right, people.

I found this exciting video which is a great learning experience and my good friend Martin helped put it on this web page linked here. Check out this exciting video and thank you for taking the time to produce it! Enjoy it!

As an avid proponent of the sock industry, I find socks both exhilarating and enthusiasm. It has come to my attention from many of my fans and followers and friends and colleagues that the topic of "sock organization" is one of growing importants. So this post is my professional opinion and advice on the matter.

First and foremost... determine your sock genre.
If you are like 87% of americans - you consistently wear one sock (style) and one sock (style) only. I have recommend to many that you should donate all unmatching pairs to various sock recycling agencies and organizations and only keep the one version of sock you wear. This makes for easy finding when all socks match the other one they are by. When you determine your sock genre you can ask for only that kind of sock genre for christmas or easter or your birthday so you don't get kinds you don't want to get in your one kind sock drawer.

Second Step
You can look at this great tutorial by a fellow sock researcher/scientist on how to properly group sock pairs together. Click on this link and it will go to the website in your internet google http://www.burningworkshop.com/2007/05/a_revolutionary_new_approach_t_1.html

Step 3
If you are like me and find all socks very exciting and can not pick one kind of sock to wear because there are too many good kinds to choose from then I recommend you have a special dresser in your house or closet or room to make different drawers the different kinds of socks. I also recommend making little divider sections to keep all the socks in different areas of your drawer so you don't get them confused or lost in other kinds and fabrics.

This is really all it takes to have excellent sock organizing skills. If, heaven forbid, one gets lost please do not let it sit unwanted in your drawer or absolutely do not throw a sock away under any circumstances ever. Here is a website that recycles socks to good homes so click on this link to the right that will take you to the internet page for this company http://www.thesockorphanage.org/Committees/Committees/Recycling.htmlNilesGriffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06481207583501758531noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389538301276775077.post-65816882523785837862010-09-28T08:32:00.000-07:002010-09-28T08:32:58.681-07:00A Sock Saved is a Sock EarnedAbraham Lincoln once said that "A penny saved is a penny earned." This could be because his face was on the penny, but I think he knew how to save things and keep the things that he saved and even if they were little that someday they would grow and be into big things.

Bear with me and let's apply this application to socks. I've recently been saving socks for the future. You see - I think that with enough socks saved - we could melt down their components and re-weave them into a new material woven into new pairs of socks. This technology is already being used in gold, silver, metal, and cell phone technologies and is already saving materials for manufacturers. Nowadays, you hear that everyone is "going green" with their saving and the way they make things, etc. It is my goal to for the sock market to "go green" with everyone else at the same time. You can count on us to be doing our part to help and to save the environment in our own ways. The ways of the sock.

So remember - don't just through away your old socks when you are done with them because remember, "A Sock saved is a sock earned."

Check back soon - i am trying to formulate our strategies for recycling socks and will soon give an address for mailing your old socks to so you can know that you saved them and you are going green like everyone else is.NilesGriffinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06481207583501758531noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1389538301276775077.post-84556753247299280802010-09-03T11:53:00.000-07:002010-09-03T11:53:50.653-07:00Innovation and it's relation to tube socksHello Computer Citizens,

A big thank you to Phil for helping me get this website set up (thank's Phil). I am coming to the realization that the more I get into the computers and into the technology of the future - the more the innovation sparks flicker in my brain. It makes me think back and laugh a little to myself, because when tube socks were introduced they were quite the innovation for their time - they were what stood between you and a set of bad blisters (we've all been there before). So I urge you to be the best innovators and brain thinkers you can be - and do the tube sock a favor and be an innovator like the tube sock was in the past and the present and will be again in the future, that is my pledge.

Sincerely,
